Testimonials - Positive Change at Work and at Home

Hey Maurice- I was in your MI TRAINING class today and Tuesday.

So, I have to share this with you...I loved your training and it got me really pumped to use my new MI skills!

My husband can not communicate at all. That skill is paramount in a marriage and I decided in the class that I was going home and asking him to move out/separate since we can not communicate. When I looked in the mirror to back out of the training parking lot, I said to myself "try the MI" And then laughed because he is pretty hopeless. I decided to text him and ask him an open ended question before he got home so he could think about it. " What do you think is the problem in our marriage?"

When I got home he said "I think its me." So, I sat down and gave him an affirmation. Then asked him "Honey, on a scale from 1 to 10, how important is it to you to do something about it" He said "10". Then I evoked some information and he said he was a poor communicator and didn't even know how to change. High motivation, low confidence.  Maurice, I can not believe the things that came out of his mouth tonight because I was using MI like a BOSS. This man not only communicated, but then made a plan by himself, with my mad evoking skills and summaries. He asked me to order some books online for couples communication and is calling his insurance for a counselor tomorrow.  He even came up with a plan to sit down  at a specific time after work so we wouldn't argue about working on them. It was the most amazing conversation we have EVER had. We have only been married 2 years.

I wanted to share that with you because it felt amazing to guide him and he had no clue I was using what I just learned how to do! His reaction to the way I talked with him was amazing. It was truly a "dance" not a wrestle. When I asked him the open ended questions, I swear I could see the little wheels turning in his brain! LOL.

Hope you enjoyed my share. We will see if his "10" will motivate him toward some positive change. But, there is hope for him now!

You are a great motivator and I retained so much information!!  Ready to crush some counseling sessions tomorrow at work.
